So...the early bird tickets are now available, rumors are a-flying, and most of all, excitement is building... well at least it is here at the MF offices!
We've been talking to certain people ;-) and trawling the depths of the internet to bring you the latest in Fuji Rock line-up rumors... as well as dreaming up some of our own predictions.
Read more for the list... comments very welcome! Let us now what you think.
Rumored or 'Confirmed' Headliners...
- The Strokes
- Gorillaz (hearing this a lot on internet forums and from other sources)
- Massive Attack (this is also all over the net. They recently hooked up with Damon Albarn at some live gigs... that'd be great to see in Naeba!)
- Muse
- Blur (this would be amazing! We know they're not set-up to do anything this year, and this is wishful thinking more than anything...but could it be possible, especially if the Gorillaz headline one night??)
- Prodigy
- Arctic Monkeys
- Kasabian
- The Killers (cancelled Japan a few times...do they owe their Japanese fans a headline slot? Do they deserve one?)
- Pearl Jam (hitting a lot of festivals this summer)
- Chemical Brothers (Not sure about this...they're here in Japan in early June for the Big Beach Festival...would they come back?)
- Kings of Leon
- PiL (reformed last December, doing a few other festivals. Are they big enough here to headline?)
- The Specials (been hearing this a lot...but i don't think they'd do Fuji Rock this year after doing Summer Sonic just last year)
- Jay Z (he's doing Bonnaroo and Wireless, and he famously did Glasto last year. Are Fuji Rock ready for a Jigga headline? I am!)
- Stevie Wonder (wow!)
Others-
- The XX
- Yeasayer
- Ian Brown
- Primal Scream (again?! It was mentioned in an NME interview and later removed)
- Freebass (some confusion from the NME interview as to whether Mani was talking about PS or Freebass... which is Andy Rourke of The Smiths, Peter Hook of New Order/Joy Division, and Mani. I know who we'd rather see there...)
- Dizzee Rascal
- The Big Pink (Japanese drummer... sort it out?)
- Limp Bizkit (new album, go to Summer Sonic if you must come to Japan. In fact, just don't come to Japan)
- 2 Door Cinema Club
- Major Lazer (new EP, Lazers Never Die, out next month. Come back...you basically made FR09'!)
- Mos Def (loves Japan, new album in May)
- MGMT
- Mumford & Sons
- The View
- The Hives
- Hot Chip
- Faithless
- The Kooks
- The Drums (please!)
- Maccabees (please!)
- New Young Pony Club
- La Roux
- Florence & The Machine (owes us one after cancelling Japan...link up with Dizzee??)
- Babyshambles (heavy touring)
- Chromeo
- LCD Soundsystem
- Phoenix (here soon, but unfortunately with Creativeman, could limit them to Summer Sonic)
- OK GO (also here soon, but unfortunately with Creativeman, could limit them to Summer Sonic)
- Simian Mobile Disco
- The Futureheads
- Leftfield
- The Dead Weather
- The Cribs
- Passion Pit (sold out their recent shows here)
- Doves
- Temper Trap
- Orbital
- Good Shoes (red marquee during the day...perfect!)
- Cudi (very wishful thinking)
- Vampire Weekend
- Liam Gallagher's new band
- Noel Gallagher solo
- Album Leaf
- The usual awesome Japanese DJs- Roctrax, Kidz Rec, Lindatunes etc etc etc
- Kitsune DJs
- Ed Banger DJs
- M.I.A (??????????????????)
So yeah, a lot of this could be, and will be, bollocks. But like we said, some of these come from people in the know, and some come from busy internet posters like ourselves. We could have wrote more and more from all the artists we've seen/heard mentioned... but this list is long enough.
If and when we hear anything else, we'll update the list. In the meantime, let us know your predictions, rumors or thoughts on this years line-up.
